This activity emulates the work done by bomb and drug dogs, but in safe and fun environments. These activities have numerous benefits for dog and handler. These benefits include developing a better understanding of how your dog is communicating with you, fun searches with your dog in areas that they typically aren’t in, and encouraging your dog to use the sense that most dogs should be using as their primary way of interpreting the world around them. Teaching a dog to rely more on it’s nose than it’s eyes, for most dogs, can help anxious dogs to regain a sense of calm.
The sport of nosework has spread across the country since the first small organized competitions in 2009. We offer both introductory training and advanced classes to help get you and your dog ready to compete, principally, in NACSW trials or AKC Scent work competitions.
Currently, introductory training is done one on one. The advanced classes meet once a week at different locations in Anne Arundel, Howard, northern Prince George’s, and southern Baltimore counties.
